2024 Marcum National Construction Survey

Some broad trends are evident in this year’s survey of construction industry leaders. Some are all too familiar, such as the ongoing struggle to find and retain skilled labor. Others show new approaches or opinions in the industry, like a significant portion of respondents seeking to broaden their scope of work to diversify their offerings.

As you’ll see, an overall sense of optimism is tempered by plenty of nervous uncertainty. Some of this duality is simply based on the sectors and geographies of each respondent. Some sectors of construction, particularly large public projects, are poised to thrive, while others, such as the office market, face challenges.

Underlying everything is the tension of an election year. Respondents are certainly thinking of politics as much as ever before, with concerns about infrastructure and taxes and a desire to see re-shoring cited as the top three priorities.
