See You in September!
There’s no mistaking it—summer is in full swing, which means plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy the warm weather and sunshine. Here in New York, there’s plenty to do, from outdoor concerts and dining, street fairs, night markets where you can grab a bite to eat, and new eateries springing up with outdoor dining. It’s great to see that tourism has made a big comeback in the city, even though that means the sidewalks are more crowded than they’ve been in the recent past.
It’s also a great time to catch some of the big movies of summer, especially on the days when the thermostat is climbing. There’s nothing like ducking into the cool darkness of a movie theater or an indoor shopping mall when the temperatures are sizzling, and humidity is through the roof—or it’s raining outside on a beach day.
That’s not to mention summer reading. I hate to admit it, but my reading list often includes books on topics like strategy, one of my passions, but I’m also going to stock up on a few mystery and spy novels to keep things interesting.
July 4 is almost here, and Marcum’s offices will be closed next week to celebrate the holiday and give the Marcum team time to recharge over what is traditionally a very slow week for us. I hope everyone on our team will take advantage of this time off to get some much-needed R&R and reboot. Many of our team members have made herculean efforts to serve our clients this year, and it has not gone unnoticed.
Many of you know how much I love breaking out the BBQ, and I’ll be doing that with my family this year. July 4 is one of my favorite holidays. Although many people forget this, it’s a celebration of the freedom and independence that continue to make the United States a destination for people around the world, among them many great entrepreneurs. If you’re not celebrating in your backyard, there are many incredible spots to watch the fireworks. Just make sure you get there early!
Tracy & I will be in Newport, Rhode Island on the 4th to watch the Newport Harbor fireworks display. A first for us.
We have traditionally paused this column during July and August and returned after Labor Day, and we will also be doing that this year. I’m looking forward to spending lots of quality time with my family on the spectacular beaches and golf courses of Long Island on the weekends to come, enjoying as many moments in nature as I can. To start off the summer, we head to Nantucket tomorrow, followed by Martha’s Vineyard and Newport. There’s nothing like summer in the Northeast.
Have a wonderful summer, everyone!
